Ring in the holiday season with the upcoming launch of Season 1 for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III and Call of Duty: Warzone. The new season brings more Multiplayer maps; game modes, the next mission in Zombies; the introduction of Urzikstan in Call of Duty: Warzone, and much more.

Season 1 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III and Call of Duty: Warzone launches on December 6 on PlayStation 4 and PS5.

Multiplayer — New maps, game modes, Loadout items, Ranked Play

Meat (Core, Launch): Make mincemeat out of your enemies at the East Bay Meats slaughterhouse. Use of the new Tac-Stance ability to combine agility with accuracy while weaving through the small confines of the meat locker and processing center.

Greece (Core, Launch): Test your mettle in a once-idyllic coastal town, where waters at the shore lap at the hull of a burning yacht. Navigate the city center of this medium-sized map where narrow alleys cut between the lines of shops. Dive into the water when you need to reposition and use the copious vantage points to get above your enemies.

Rio (Core, In-Season): Take in the vibrant colors of Rio de Janeiro as you battle across an upscale shopping center. Face enemies in tight quarters throughout the mall or move through the vibrant exterior streets in this small- to -medium- sized map. Look for vantage points in the covered walkway, over the garage, and on top of vehicles. Spacing is tight, so be ready to engage.

Training Facility (Gunfight, Launch): Challenge another duo within the remains of an old warehouse, now repurposed as part of Konni Group’s training facilities. Perch on the second level for a greater view of the area or move through the interior spaces to ambush your enemies.

Gunfight returns plus other new modes

Gunfight returns to Call of Duty, pitting two teams of two against one another in a round-based match. There are no respawns, and all players are assigned the same randomized Loadout at the start of each round, which changes every two rounds. The first team to win six rounds wins the match.

Five maps at launch: Season 1 brings the new Training Facility map along with four Carry Forward Gunfight maps from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II: Alley, Blacksite, Exhibit, and Shipment.

All or Nothing: Deploy with Throwing Knives and no ammo. Get one elimination to activate the Scavenger Perk, allowing you to retrieve ammo pickups for your weapon. The first to land 20 eliminations wins.

More modes will be added to the mix during Season 1. Wield the Ray Gun in the new Vortex mode, plus load into Infected, Headquarters, and Team Gunfight.

New Vest and Killstreaks

Equip the new Assassin Vest: kills don’t display skulls and the Operator is immune to UAV and enemy radar effects (including while stationary).

Unlock two new Killstreaks via Armory Challenges. Call in the Swarm to deploy mosquito drones that provide blanket coverage over the entire area. Activate the EMP to disrupt enemy Killstreaks and equipment.

Ranked Play launches in the mid-season

Ranked Play is a feature-packed competitive Multiplayer mode that leverages the Call of Duty League-approved rules, restrictions, maps, and modes. Track your standing with a visible skill rating and earn rewards across multiple Skill Divisions and Tiers. The best of the best will be featured in the Top 250 Leaderboard and Division.

Zombies — The next mission plus Rifts, a new Wonder Weapon, and more

The Season 1 update brings new challenges and rewards alongside a new story mission that will test your abilities in the fights ahead.

Enter the Rift: These otherworldly labyrinths are located inside the Dark Aether, where squads have 30 minutes to complete a series of increasingly chaotic objectives to earn exceptional rewards. Find Sigils to unlock these Dark Aether Rifts.

New Wonder Weapon: Transform enemies into allies with the powerful V-R11. Shoot zombies and transform them into zombie-slaying humans, or blast humans to mutate them into friendly zombies.

Take on the Warlord: The South Korean born Dokkaebi, a Lieutenant within Terminus Outcomes, is entering the Exclusion Zone. Squad up, infiltrate her fortress, and take her out.

New Classified Schematics: Activate the Dog Bone to summon a friendly Hellhound companion that will follow you and attack nearby threats until its health runs out. Equip the Golden Armor Plate for Plates that repair over time in addition to providing extra damage resistance. Wield the Aether Blade, a special Throwing Knife with infinite ammo and a boomerang-like combat style.

Call of Duty: Warzone — Introducing Urzikstan

Prepare to fight through the all-new Urzikstan map, a vast and captivating landscape with a mixture of rural, industrial, and suburban zones across 11 major points of interest.

At launch, Urzikstan will support Battle Royale, Resurgence, and Plunder. Later in the season, play Lockdown and the new Limited-Time-Mode, Slay Ride Resurgence. All squad sizes for Battle Royale on Urzikstan will be available all season long.

Carry Forward Maps: Once Season 1 has been live for 48 hours, Ashika Island and Vondel will join the playable map rotation.

Updated Gameplay: The Season 1 update brings many of the new movement and other mechanics present in Modern Warfare III, along with new features, to Call of Duty: Warzone.

Expect movement updates to support features like slide canceling, Tac-Stance, ADS while sliding, and more. For gameplay updates, all Operators will carry a dedicated pistol when swimming, climbing ladders, or ledge hanging, along with improved water combat, a manual Gas Mask, dedicated ammo slots, loot rarity, classic red dots, and more.

New Environments: Take control of Call of Duty: Warzone’s first mobile POI with Urzikstan’s Drivable Train complete with forward and backward engine controls, a Buy Station, UAV Tower, Horn, Ammo Depot, and a guaranteed Legendary Supply Crate.

New Perks: Equip new and returning Perks exclusive to Call of Duty: Warzone. Some of the new Perks include:

  • Irradiated: Move faster and take less damage while in the gas.
  • Tempered: Now also available as a Custom Perk, Tempered allows you to refill armor plates to full with two plates instead of three.
  • Combat Scout: Bullets you fire briefly mark an enemy for you and your squad. Hitting the enemy from farther away increases the mark time.
  • Resolute: When taking damage from gunfire, this grants a short bonus to movement speed.
  • Shrouded: Drop a smoke grenade when downed.

New Gulag: Urzikstan brings a new Gulag for 1v1 combat. Experience gameplay updates like the Ascender Overtime Finisher that players can use to exfil toward the end of the round, Gulag Public Events like Cash Grab, and, later in the season, the addition of night vision goggles during some Gulag fights.

New Public Event: In the “Fly Buy” Public Event, multiple drones fly into the map to drop additional Buy Stations in the environment.

Attention all PlayStation players, ready yourself for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. The war has changed, and for the first time in back-to-back years, Call of Duty returns with a direct sequel. The entire game, featuring the full Campaign, seminal Multiplayer, and all-new open-world Modern Warfare Zombies experience, launches on November 10.

Since the game’s reveal back on August 17, we’ve dropped a variety of important game innovations and revelations. We’ll share everything you need to know to prepare for Nov 10, plus some insider tips and tricks as you squad up and enter the fray with Modern Warfare III this week.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III launches Nov 10 — insider tips to get started

Campaign

The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III campaign is the direct sequel to the events of Modern Warfare II. This time with an enemy, Vladimir Makarov, offering an existential challenge that’s unlike anything Task Force 141 have faced before.

As Task Force 141’s rules of engagement have changed to fight the ultimate threat, so does the way you approach the campaign. Modern Warfare III is set to redefine player agency, offering an unparalleled degree of freedom and adaptability thanks to Open Combat Missions. These new mission types are dispersed throughout the campaign in a seamless experience alongside the cinematic missions that have defined two decades of the franchise’s single-player experiences.

Prepare for uneasy alliances and unfinished business: To save a world on the brink, the time has come to confront your past….

Campaign: completion rewards.

The campaign consists of 15 different missions. Almost every one of these missions rewards players with items upon completion, which can be used across multiplayer and Zombies. These are available to all players, regardless of whether the campaign was played during the Early Access period or not.

Insider tip:

Open Combat Missions have plenty to discover each time you play them. When you load in be on the lookout for crates and weapons, as well as tacticals and lethals, that are scattered throughout the environment. If you want to try a stealth strategy in your first go, pick up those NVGs and throwing knives. If you want to pick up the pace a bit, feel free to replay the mission but utilize some of the more bombastic tools at your disposal. When you acquire weapons in each playthrough they get added to your inventory, so you have more options and more at your disposal each time you try a mission. Don’t be afraid to try something different each time… a little creativity can go a long way.

Multiplayer: maps and modes

Welcome home: Afghan. Derail. Estate. Favela. Karachi. Highrise. Invasion. Quarry. Rundown. Rust. Scrapyard. Skidrow. Sub Base. Terminal. Underpass. Wasteland — 16 Core Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) maps, constructed to maintain authenticity with a thorough modernization, will be available on launch day.

Expect a variety of launch modes, including 3v3v3, 6v6 and 32v32, scheduled for rotation in the available Playlists, with more being added in the following weeks.

Multiplayer: weapons

Modern Warfare III launches with an impressive arsenal of new weapons, to complement the armaments carrying forward from Modern Warfare II and the six seasons of weapon content from that title.

Expect the Modern Warfare III Gunsmith to be an approachable, familiar, and vastly customizable weapon builder. Its goal is to make nearly every weapon in the game a true extension of your personal playstyle.

But that’s not all, MWIII Multiplayer Operators have access to amped-up weapon functionality through the Aftermarket Parts feature, representing Gunsmith’s biggest change to the weapons you use. These parts drastically change the functionality and appearance of your weapon in some fun and unexpected ways.

Insider tips:

It’s all in the details! Prepare for matches in a new way, as perks have evolved to allow for more customization. Pick between a variety of vests, gloves, boots, and gear to create your ideal loadout… bonus points if each of these items complement one another to offer maximum effectiveness.

Ready to toggle Tac-Stance on? Tac-Stance is a new movement mechanic that is the perfect middle-ground between hip-fire and aiming downsights. Find the button combination that works best for you to employ Tac-Stance, since it’s an action that you will want to be able to go in-and-out of on a moment’s notice in order to maximize its effectiveness. There are several options to try, we encourage you to try different button combinations to find the best fit.

Watch out for that flash! If you’re looking to avoid obscured vision in the midst of a flash grenade, be sure to avert your eyes. If you see where the grenade falls, quickly look away before detonation and you’ll be able to continue on un-blinded and unhindered.

Modern Warfare Zombies

Welcome to Operation Deadbolt. Prepare for a massive, open-world experience as a team of multinational Operators assist the members of Task Force 141 in taking down not only the vast undead hordes, but also Viktor Zakhaev and his hired private military company, Terminus Outcomes.

Your main tasks – aside from surviving hordes of zombies and the machinations of the PMC group Terminus Outcomes – is threefold:

Operation Deadbolt: Unravel intel on this emergency contingency plan put into action by the CIA. In each mission, you will uncover more about this plan and how it came to fruition.

A world of opportunity: Complete Contracts to earn Essence, collect Acquisitions, and clear missions to discover what is really happening in the EZ.

Secure and extract: You also need to learn when the situation on the ground becomes advantageous as well as untenable. Immerse yourself and work with other players to complete the more difficult objectives, and extract before you’re overwhelmed.

Insider tip:

Looking for something? Perk machines are a well-known way in Call of Duty Zombies to boost your abilities in your fight against the undead. However, in addition to these in Modern Warfare Zombies, Perk-a-Colas can also be found in fridges around the open-world … but only if you’re lucky. You should be warned, this is a rare discovery so cherish every can you find.

Modern Warfare III launch

Modern Warfare III launches November 10, but there is still time to pre-order. PlayStation players who pre-order the game get access to the Lockpick Operator Pack for use in multiplayer and Zombies when the game launches.

We look forward to seeing you all in the lobbies starting November 10.

PlayStation players, it’s almost time to crack the code with Lockpick, a PlayStation-exclusive* Operator coming to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. As announced at Call of Duty: Next a few weeks ago, the Lockpick Operator Pack will be available starting November 10 for anyone who pre-orders Modern Warfare III at PlayStation Store. With the game’s launch around the corner, we wanted to share some in-depth details on the inspiration for this cunning character and a couple of the tools she’ll have at her disposal.

Élodie “Lockpick” Michaux’s backstory

Like Oni in 2022’s Modern Warfare II, Lockpick was a combined creative effort between the PlayStation team and the Call of Duty development team, this time Sledgehammer Games. There was quick alignment on the type of personality each team was looking for, and thus the backstory for Élodie “Lockpick” Michaux came to be.

Born in Paris, Élodie was raised by her mother and four streetwise older brothers. As she idolized them and tried to imitate them, she developed tough skin and light fingers.

She went from stealing fruits from local stands to higher-level robberies. Any time she got caught (a rarity), she was able to charm her way out of serious consequences.

Her brothers straightened out as they got older, but Élodie was up to the same tricks… until her crimes – and the police – caught up with her. Élodie’s brothers bailed her out and staged an intervention. Out of love for them, Élodie gave up her criminal ways, and eventually followed them into the army where she quickly proved herself and entered the Special Forces, specializing in demolitions.

Over the next five years, three brothers died in action, and one brother was severely disabled. After her third brother died, she became disillusioned with army life and left.

With her mother and remaining brother to care for, she turned to friends from the old days on the streets, who asked for help with an art heist. Élodie, with skills in disarmament, explosives, and thievery, agreed. They succeeded, and she became well-off.

This became what she did to support her family from then on. And the more jobs she does, the more others hear about her skills, and the better the jobs become.

The inspiration for Lockpick

As Sledgehammer Games thought about the operator they were creating, there were some themes that definitely stood out.

As Dana Shaw, senior narrative designer, says “We wanted to make someone who felt mischievous and playful and a little arrogant. We drew from some of our favorite heist movies to nail down the personality and worldview. For the backstory we liked the idea that she had tried to not be a criminal and things just didn’t go as planned. Everything followed around that.”

Lockpick’s visual design draws on the art thief narrative with a colorful camo suit, decked out with her tactical gear needed to do the job. And although her signature blonde braid gives a hint of her identity, her mask is a pivotal part of her outfit. Per Shaw, “no thief wants to be recognized outside the job.”

From her roguish quips as she interacts with her competitors and teammates in MP, to her forceful finishing move, Lockpick’s personality comes through in several aspects of her character’s design. But two of the tools at her disposal also lean into the art heist theme. Élodie comes with the Starry Knife Melee Blueprint and the AMRican Gothic SMG Weapon Blueprint, also unlocked as part of the Lockpick Operator Pack and usable with any operator in Modern Warfare III.

When stealth is key, there’s no better weapon than the Knife blueprint to take down opponents before they even know you were there. But if a situation does get sticky at close range, this SMG Blueprint is the right tool for the job, being light but packing a major punch. As Shaw emphasizes, Élodie “always knows the right tool for the job. No matter what the job is.” Both of these weapons also draw from the artistic design of Lockpick herself, leveraging her blue camo with gold accents. The SMG Blueprint even comes with a blue tracer effect, allowing players to colorfully work their way through their objectives.

What’s next for Lockpick and Modern Warfare III

For players who have pre-ordered at PlayStation Store, the Lockpick Operator Pack will be playable in both Modern Warfare III’s Multiplayer and Zombies game modes starting November 10, and then in Call of Duty: Warzone starting at season 1. She will also be the inspiration for Call of Duty: Warzone PlayStation Combat Packs starting in season 1 as well, so be on the lookout for more information on those soon.
